Prescription Asssistance
Senior Neighbors can help Kent County residents age 60 and over meet their need for prescription medications in a variety of ways.
Several prescription programs are available including:
EPIC (Michigan Elder Prescription Insurance Coverage): The state of Michigan funded emergency EPIC program is available to help some persons age 65 and over. The EPIC program is also available to some persons 65 and over in emergency situations. For more online information on EPIC, visit www.miepic.com.
SMAP (Senior Medication Assistance Program): Persons between the ages of 60 and 64 might qualify for assistance from the Kent County senior millage funded SMAP.
Medicaid: Seniors on low, fixed incomes could qualify for Medicaid assistance from the Family Independence Agency. Seniors who qualify for Medicaid have a $1 co-payment for each prescription medication. A Senior Neighbors Case Manager can assist in applying for Medicaid.
Drug Manufacturer Discounts: Several Drug Manufacturers have programs available to persons 60 and over. Seniors whose incomes are too high to qualify for other programs, but who still have significant prescription medication costs, can apply for programs offered by several drug manufacturers.
Online Prescriptions: Ordering drugs from the internet can be a cost-savings option for some seniors.
A Senior Neighbors case manager can help you determine what prescription program may work for your situation.
Many of these programs change their eligibility qualifications regularly. Please call Senior Neighbors at (616) 459-6019 for more information on prescriptions
